The essence of this article may not sound as much hypocritical as the title sounds but I want to begin this new year by getting back to my habit of blog writing and instigating a debate about the much talked about referendum 2020. As soon as we talk about Khalsa, Khalsahood or Khalsa code of conduct,there is no room for anything like hair cutting or styling but there definitely is a room for respect for other faiths and co-existence with other communities but in terms of politics, bureaucracy and statecraft, the technical terminology would simply blow-off the religious sentiments away of any religious identity and not just Khalsahood.
Having barbers exist in Khalistan not just means the co-existence of other communities but also the lower-middle class living their normal lives and pursuing their professions normally in the unorganized and the unstructured small-scale industry hence making Khalistan not just a concept centered around the sikh power-elites and economic-elites but also the non-sikh masses.
Though Guru Nanak's philosophy of universality and secularism is true and inclusive in every way but the paid-religious preachers have made a mockery of it in every way as they don't have anything to bank upon it but they can capitalize and encash their religious fanaticism from their respective commercialized shrines. Though Khalistan would simply mean a country where Sikhism enjoys the patronage of the state but it would have the right to maintain a hypocritical secular image just like the current states of India and Pakistan where both claim to be secular nations but clearly "Hindutva" enjoys the state patronage in India and "Islam" enjoys the state patronage in Pakistan with a secular makeover.
Hence, dreaming of a country without stratification, power-struggle and crime would be idiotic in any part of the world and not just south-east Asia. So by definition, barbers have existed since times immemorial and groomed some beautiful kings and queens and will continue to exist till the end of times.
